Engineering the real feeling of cycling for stationary bikes.

An interview with professors Alessandro Astolfi and Paul Mitcheson from Imperial College London.


The control algorithms needed to achieve the real 'on-pedal' feeling of cycling are complex.  We developed a patent-pending way to algorithmically replicate the feeling of physical forces such as rolling resistance, slope, weight, acceleration, braking, and most importantly inertia. As a result, the ‘physics’ a cyclist encounters on the road, off-road, in a velodrome, etc. can now be computed to achieve a true simulation through Digital Force Control (DFC).
